With Covid 19 and all the restrictions, the best place to be is home. Like all things in life, this too shall pass. In the meantime, we just need to find ways to enjoy being at home. Weekends are usually spent with good food and good company. We now get to enjoy more of those moments with our loved ones.

Cheese and wine makes me happy! I live in the land of cheese and have a cheese farm on my doorstep. However, I do tend lean more towards softer French cheese and preferably stinky ones. Camembert, brie and my favourite has to be Époisses. As for Dutch cheese, it has be Old Amsterdam cheese.

I am therefore a big fan of cheese boards. There is always something on there for everyone. But it is totally acceptable to enjoy it on your own. Really, I won’t judge you! ? I do it often and when I do, I keep it simple. I like something sweet with my cheese like jam or in this case, caramelized figs.

It is so easy to make and only takes a few minutes. Not only do they pair well with cheese, but also good with yoghurt and pistachio nuts as a breakfast. There are so may ways to enjoy it. Cook up a batch, cover it with syrup and keep it in an airtight container like an old jam jar.

Remember not to wait too long to use the fresh figs and keep them in the fridge. Use them within a few days, no more than a week. Not that anyone can wait that long to to eat them. Enjoy it!
